How we check prices, and what we don’t do

The method behind every number on this site.

PriceDrop UK is run by Bargain Basics Ltd, a Manchester retail business. We built it because we spend our working days checking product prices and got tired of "deals" that weren't. This page explains what we do and, as importantly, what we don't.

Where the prices come from

Retailers publish product feeds — machine-readable lists of what they sell and at what price. We pull those feeds every morning at six. Each product is identified by its barcode (EAN), which lets us match the same product across retailers and against Amazon UK without relying on names, which vary.

What we check

For every product, we record today's price, the retailer's stated RRP or previous price, and the current Amazon UK price for the same barcode. A product is listed as a deal only if today's price is genuinely below one of those references. We drop products where the name on the retailer's feed doesn't match the Amazon listing (a sign the barcode is wrong), and where the gap is implausibly large (a sign the Amazon price is a marketplace error).

What we record

Every listed product's price is stored daily. That history is shown on the deal page and it's the basis for "lowest we've seen". The longer we've tracked something, the more that line means. We started in September 2026, so the history is young; it gets more useful every day.

Which retailers

We list retailers we've vetted: registered UK companies with a public reviews record and a sensible returns policy. Several retailers with feeds available have been excluded for poor reviews or unclear ownership. The list grows as we add retailers; it doesn't include anyone who pays to be on it, because nobody does.

How we're paid

Some links are affiliate links: if you buy after clicking, the retailer pays us a small commission. It doesn't change the price you pay, and it doesn't change what we list or how we rank it. Ranking is by the size and genuineness of the drop. We don't take payment for placement, we don't list voucher codes, and we don't run cashback.

What we don't do

We don't sell anything. We don't hold stock. We don't buy advertising on retailers' brand names. We don't write reviews of products we haven't used, and the articles on this site are about how to buy, not which product to buy. If a price on the site is wrong, tell us and we'll correct it.
