Car audio, dash cams and EV charging are three markets with very different pricing habits. Head units and speakers follow model-year cycles; dash cams follow tech launches; EV chargers are still finding their price level as the market grows.

How to read an automotive deal

For head units, check the fascia and wiring requirements: the unit may be cheap, but the fitting kit for your specific car can add £40 to £80. Specialist retailers (Car Audio Centre) list the kit alongside; general retailers don't. For dash cams, the headline resolution matters less than the sensor and the parking mode.

What the specs mean

Head units. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are the features that change daily driving; wireless versions cost more and drain phone battery. Pre-amp outputs matter only if you're adding amplifiers.

Dash cams. 1440p is the useful ceiling; 4K files are large and the sensor quality matters more. Look for a parking mode with hardwiring, and a GPS log if you want speed and location on the footage.

EV chargers. 7 kW is the standard home rate on single-phase supply; 22 kW needs three-phase, which most UK homes don't have. Tethered (cable attached) is convenient; untethered lets you use your own cable.

When automotive prices drop

Car audio follows the model year: new head units arrive in spring, previous ones drop through summer. Dash cams discount around Prime Day and Black Friday. EV chargers are moving down steadily as volumes rise.

What to avoid

Head units without a UK warranty; dash cams from brands with no UK support; and any EV charger not on the OZEV approved list if you intend to claim a grant.
