Best sports & outdoor deals — October 2026

Fitness equipment is seasonal in a way few categories are: January demand pushes prices up, and by March the same kit is being cleared. Equestrian and outdoor gear follow the riding and walking seasons. Timing beats brand loyalty here.

How to read a sports deal

Weight-based equipment — dumbbells, kettlebells, plates — is priced per kilogram, and the per-kilo rate is the comparison that matters. A 20 kg kettlebell at £45 and a 24 kg one at £52 are the same deal. For machines, check the maximum user weight and the warranty on the motor or frame, which is where quality shows.

What the specs mean

Treadmills. Motor power is quoted in continuous horsepower (CHP); 2.0 CHP or above for running, 1.5 for walking. Belt length matters more than width for taller runners.

Bikes and rowers. Magnetic resistance is quiet and consistent; air resistance is louder but scales with effort. Flywheel weight above 8 kg gives a smoother feel.

Equestrian rugs are sized in feet and inches and weighted in grams of fill: 0 g for summer sheets, 100 g lightweight, 200 to 250 g medium, 300 g+ heavyweight.

When sports prices drop

Home gym kit is dearest in January and cheapest from late February. Outdoor and cycling gear drops in September and October as the season closes. Equestrian rugs and winter gear discount in spring; summer sheets in September.

What to avoid

Equipment with no stated maximum user weight; "commercial grade" claims without a matching warranty; and anything shipped from outside the UK where returning a 40 kg item is impractical.
